By combining the noble silver- plating with prestigious Chinese lacquer, a natural and living material, Caran d'Ache is brilliantly expanding its famous Varius collection. Remaining faithful to the traditional techniques, working with Chinese lacquer is a true art form that is jealously guarded by the rare initiated. The layer of lacquer is applied to each side of the hexagon and then precooked for more than 100 hours to guarantee its hardness, before being polished to receive a new application of lacquer. It is then plated with gold, silver or rhodium. The deep black of the Varius Chinablack collection uses the contrast to highlight the hexagonal shape, which characterises several writing instruments from Caran d'Ache. The 18-carat rhodium-plated nib is available in three different widths. The Varius Chinablack range is available in three writing forms: rollerball, ball-point pen and propelling pencil. Suggested retail price: Fountain pen version: 660 euros
